While not exactly class leading the blower sports max 90 Mph speed with 430 CFM’s.  This is plenty of power to clean off hard surfaces and handle light to medium leaf blowing chores.

The blower has a nice max 125 Mph speed with a large 450 CFM number.  A brushless motor helps maximize all the efficiency and power it can get from the 20-Volt Max battery.

Adjustable speed trigger with speed control keeps the blower powering along to handle your cleaning chores.  With a low 66 decibel rating, you shouldn’t have any issues with neighborhood noise restrictions.

Gas vs. Electric/Battery: Which Leaf Blower to Pick

Gas leaf blowers have been around for a long time, and if you are like me the unmistakable sound of leaf blowers can be heard throughout your neighborhood in the fall and summer as folks use them to clean up fallen leaves or remove grass clippings from driveways and pathways.

Well, recently electric and battery powered leaf blowers are taking yard work by storm, as tighter restrictions on noise levels and battery efficiency have greatly increased over the last several years.  I am actually all in on electric outdoor power tools and personally love them.

Gas Leaf Blowers

So if you have done any yard work in the past 30 years you are aware of gas leaf blowers.  They haven’t actually changed that much in that time as well.  Gas leaf blowers are powered by 2 or 4 cycle gas engines. Most are 2 cycle and you have to use a mixture or gas and oil to fuel the leaf blower.

They are loud but powerful and can handle pretty much any blowing task you throw at them, as long as you don’t run out of fuel.

If you have a large lawn (acres of lawn) and you will be using your leaf blower for long periods of time (hours on end) then a gas leaf blower might be the blower of choice for you.

Electric or Battery Powered Leaf Blowers

The basic corded electric leaf blower has been around for quite a while as well.  They are pretty simple machines usually with an electric motor and blower fan.

Battery powered leaf blowers haven’t been around as long, but have recently come into their own with new larger Lithium-Ion batteries and a new wave of brushless electric motors.

New battery powered leaf blowers have taken all the advantages of a corded electric leaf blower, and made them mobile.  This is really a game changer for electric outdoor power equipment.

You get a quieter, cleaner, leaf blower that requires little maintenance.  This really is a plus on all fronts.

The one caveat is battery runtime.  Most modern battery powered blowers have a runtime of around 14 -25 minutes on a single battery, some exceed this like RYOBI’s backpack blower which has a runtime up to 47 minutes (but it has dual batteries).

One of the models in this test boasts a 50-minute runtime.  That is the exception, not the rule, however.

If runtime is an issue, you can always buy more batteries or if you purchase a model that is from the same manufacture of other outdoor equipment like a string trimmer, hedge trimmer, or chainsaw,  you might just use that battery.

What to Look for in an Electric Leaf Blower

Some of the key features that someone would want to consider when looking for an electric or battery operated leaf blower are listed below.

• Battery capacity – Larger volt number and Ah numbers mean a more powerful blower that runs longer.  40-volt is the norm these days, with 2 – 4 Ah batteries.
• Light Weight – You need a blower that is easy to carry and maneuver.  Leaf blowing requires your to move all around your lawn, you don’t want to tire out before the battery runs out.
• High CFM and MPH –  Higher CFM and faster MPH numbers means more powerful
• Adjustable speed settings – Be able to adjust the speed of the blower either higher or lower to your cleaning tasks.  Cruise control is nice to have as well.
• Low Noise level – quieter blowers are just more comfortable to operate. Having a blower that is quiet is desirable.
• Included Battery and Charger – If this is your first battery powered outdoor tool it is a must to have the battery and charger so you can use the tool as soon as possible.  If this isn’t your first battery powered outdoor tool, having an extra battery and charger never hurts.

Well, that actually depends on the size of the battery you using and your usage.  Most manufacturers claim a certain runtime, but that is based on running the blower at lower speeds.  In reality, you could expect half the claimed times in real life.

Average runtimes on battery powered leaf blowers are between 14 -20 minutes.

Are electric leaf blowers loud?

Electric leaf blowers are not as loud as gas leaf blowers.  I wouldn’t consider them quiet by any means, but they shouldn’t damage your hearing.  Some newer models are in the sub 60 decibel range which is pretty impressive for an outdoor power tool.

For reference, 60 decibels is about as loud as an average conversation.

How long do batteries last in a cordless leaf blower?

If the batteries are well taken care of, a modern Lithium-ion battery should last the life of the tool, which is usually around 5  years.  Most manufactures offer 3 to 4 year warranties on the batteries that come with an electric leaf blower.
