How to replace the line in an RYOBI string trimmer
If you are like me and you use your RYOBI string trimmer a good bit, then you are going to need to know how to reload a RYOBI 40v string trimmer with new line. It is a pretty easy task and will get you back to trimming in no time.
There are really just a few steps to get the trimmer line replaced. This same process will also work with a gas trimmer if you have one, but we are going to focus on the 40v RYBOI line of trimmers here.
Make sure the Trimmer is Shut Down
Stop the unit and remove the battery pack for cordless power heads, or disconnect from power supply for electric power heads.
Rotating the Spool
Rotate the spool clockwise as necessary to align the arrows on the spool with the eyelets in the string head housing.
Cutting the Trimmer Line
Cut one piece of trimmer line 10 ft. long. Insert the line into the eyelet on the string trimmer housing. Push until the end of the line comes out the other side of the string head. Pull the line from the other side until equal amounts of the line appear on both sides of the spool.
You can also use precut string from RYOBI, I personally use the precut string since that is easier t deal with. A package of 4 precut sections lasts quite a long time.
Rotating the Spool Part II – Winding on the Line
Rotate the spool clockwise to wind the line on the spool until approximately 6 in. of line is showing on each side.
Line Feed Verification
Push the spool retainer down while pulling on line(s) to
manually advance the line and to check for proper assembly of the string head
Summing it Up – How to Reload a RYOBI 40v String Trimmer
Reloading line on an RYOBI string trimmer really is a super easy task and RYOBI makes it easy with clearly marked lines and instructions. So don’t worry if your line has run out, it is super easy to reload your line in no time.
FAQ: Replacing the String in a String Trimmer or Weed Eater
Q: How often should I replace the string in my string trimmer or weed eater?
A: The frequency with which you’ll need to replace the string in your string trimmer or weed eater will depend on how often you use it and the work you’re doing. Generally, you should replace the string whenever it becomes frayed, worn, or broken. If you’re using your trimmer frequently, you may need to replace the string every few uses.
Q: How do I know what type of replacement string to use?
A: The type of replacement string you need will depend on the make and model of your string trimmer or weed eater. Check your owner’s manual or contact the manufacturer to find out what type of string is recommended for your particular model. Different thickness of line fits different makes and models of trimmers: thinner line for light-duty work and thicker line for more heavy-duty or prosumer work.
Q: How much replacement string do I need?
A: The amount of replacement string you’ll need will depend on the make and model of your string trimmer or weed eater, as well as the size of the spool. Many manufactures produce refill spools that have just enough line to fit your particular timmer model. Check your owner’s manual or contact the manufacturer to determine how much replacement string is recommended for your particular model.
Q: How do I wind the replacement string onto the spool?
A: The process for winding the replacement string onto the spool will vary depending on the make and model of your string trimmer or weed eater. In general, though, you’ll need to wind the string onto the spool in a specific pattern, following the arrows or other markings on the spool. Check your owner’s manual or search online for specific instructions for your model.
